Visual ethnography is the use of visual arts in ethnographic research. These include photography, audiovisual material, hypermedia, art and drawing. The answer to the question of whether a photograph for instance can be used as an ethnographic material highly depends on the audience. In this space I'll include a number of photo's that I've taken, that I think are of ethnographic value.

The making of the Lebanese traditional bread
A village lady from Lebanon was kind enough to allow taking photos of her while she was making the Lebanese bread (The marqooq) in the traditional way using a special stove (the saj stove). The saj stove top almost resembles an upside down wok!
| First: prepare the dough and take a small piece |
| Second step: Flatten the dough on the wooden board |
| Third step: pat untill smooth and even |
| Fourth step: place on the special pillow |
| Fifth step: place on top of the stove. Note the anxious face of the lady patiently monitoring for the result! |
